006 - A REVIEW of AI companion generator, Aroused.ai.
The Pitch
Aroused.ai is a social-like platform that lets you create an AI companion of your fantasy to chat romantically with and have a little NSFW "fun."
The Experience
Getting Started With Aroused.ai
When you land on Aroused.ai, you're presented with a wall of pre-made AI companions of either female or male genders (they also have their own followers). All of them are of caucasian ethnicity. Before creating your companion, you can try the pre-made ones to get a feel for the experience.
Creating your own companion is where things get interesting. First, you choose either a realistic or anime style, which determines the image generated of your companion. Afterward, you input a few fields that describe your companion's personality and provide a background for them. Your imagination or desires limit what you write.
Talking with your companion feels no different from any other AI chat you've experienced. My first companion had the personality of a young, headstrong lawyer looking for love. The conversations were realistic at times but often felt a bit artificial. We had long conversations about travel and vacation memories, and I often had to redirect the convo to discuss relationships and lovey-dovey matters.
For my second, I made an anime character with the personality and background of a military combatant who was looking for someone just as strong as her. I made sure to give her a more flirty and spicey attitude. So, our conversations were much different and quickly got to the point of talking a bit "dirty."
Chatting with your companion is straightforward, with a commonplace chat interface. When prompted, your companion will share images of themselves (nude if you ask) or reply with a voice response (which sounds decent but a tad Ai-ish).
Aroused.ai feels like an introductory step into the potential of AI companions. At the same time, it's not meant to be taken seriously, but if it does gain traction, it may say something about our society from a social standpoint.
The Verdict
Why Should You Care
While some of the responses sometimes felt realistic (your mileage may vary), overall, it felt like you were talking to a bot. One of the dead giveaways is that responses are almost instantaneous. If they can make the response times feel like someone is thinking about their reply, that will improve the immersion. A paywall is involved, and you are limited to the time spent chatting and sharing images with your companion. If you're looking for a novelty, this may be for you, but don't think this could replace talking to a natural person any time soon.
